No cooking this week! We’re on a family road trip to Carlsbad NM. First stop is Tuscon AZ and its time to find some great Mexican food! This is my first time at El Charro Cafe but I hear its good!
This restaurant opened in 1922 and is still run by the same family. When we arrived the restaurant was full and had a waiting list (always a good sign- especially on a Sunday night)
I ordered the Carnitas Enchiladas w/ Crema sauce with roasted green chiles.
We had a great time and the food was good. I got some great ideas on making a similar sauce for myself…
Tomorrow we will be in Carlsbad and I am hoping to go to the Red Chimney for dinner. Another family owned BBQ Restaurant that’s been around for a long time too!
I finally got to eat at the Red Chimney again… (The last time was in 2001!) We arrived early so we could all get seated. As soon as we stepped into the door we were hit with the great aroma of Pecan wood smoked meat! They had a decent beer selection.(important after climbing around in the caves!) An interesting note about their famous Ranch Beans that they serve is that they’re grown locally in Artesia NM. The Brisket that I had that night was a great ending for our trip!
